How Commissioning Works

Furniture design and making is my work and my passion. I started my training in environmental design and moved towards furniture making as I realised that to be a good designer I needed to have a fundamental understanding of how things are made and the materials they are made from, which is why I am actively involved in my own workshop every day.

Commissioning a piece of furniture is a relatively simple process to get started. It begins with a phone call and usually a meeting is arranged to discuss the requirements of the project, preferably in the space in which the final piece will be used.

After a relatively detailed discussion regarding Function and style to develop a brief the client will be contacted with an initial proposal which will outline the scope of the project either in drawing or written form, a budget, and a design fee to create a full proposal.

A full design proposal will contain working drawings, illustrations, material samples and a quotation.  The fee for preparing a full design proposal will be deducted from the final invoice when the project proceeds to completion.

Upon approval of a final design and quotation, a financial commitment is sought from the client by way of a deposit, and a delivery date agreed.

How We Work With:

Private Clients

Corporate Clients

Architects & Interior Designers

When working with other designers I listen carefully to understand every aspect of the proposed project.

I can develop concepts and sketches provided, into realisable design drawings, advising on the technical aspects of making, materials and function.

I am willing to collaborate on a project to develop ideas, bringing to bear my many years of design and making experience at the earliest possible stage of the design process.
